Now, this short lecture will give you a basic idea of how to breathe out with sounds; Tohokami (To-ho-ka-mi)
First of all, as I explained in the previous page, people who have no idea about Japanese language need to master how to pronounce Japanese words, especially vowels, precisely. There are loads of websites with audio files explaining how to pronounce Japanese words, so please help yourself to basic Japanese pronunciation.
All right, then, first, focus your attention on Tanden (Lower Tanden), just same as other breathing methods.
Then inhale the air fully. This is also common to all breathing methods.
After you inhaled completely, as you breath out, say "To ("o" in "old" or "long", NOT "two")", shout it loud and long, as loud as you can until you can make it no louder, until you can exhale the air no more.
In this exercise, you might feel like you are letting the sound go outside of your body. But actually, the power of the "To ("o" in "old" or "long")" sound causes energetic vibration (Hado) inside of your body.
In Japanese language, the power of the sound (or the word) is called "Kotodama". "Koto" is the word and "Dama" is the spirit, so it literally means "the spirit of the word". Some say that "Kotodama" is the God. But actually, as you can see, when you chant "Kotodama", it comes out as a sound, so it is simply energetic vibration (Hado).
We have 48 syllables in Japanese. Each syllable causes resonant response in each part of the body. Some people who have been practicing breathing methods or Kiko (Tai Chi/Qigong/Chi Kung) methods find out naturally about the fact of "the spirit of the word (sound)" being energetic vibration (Hado). But Most of the people cannot get it right throughout their life, and being surprised by the effects of the power of Kotodama the spirit of the word (sound), end up reaching a conclusion such as "It is the God!"
This topic is quite difficult to explain in writing.
Anyway, to make a long story short, it is like this;
Step 1. Inhale completely, and as you breath out, say "To ("o" in "old" or "long")", Shout it out loud and long, as loud as you can until you can make it no louder, like;
"Tohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
Keep shouting out loud until you can exhale the air no more. Keep shouting 15 to 20 minutes if you can.
Then, inhale again, and,
"Hohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
Inhale again, and
"Kahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" (note; "a" in" aha" NOT "able")
Do the same thing in the order of "To" "Ho" "Ka" "Mi" "E" "Mi" "Ta" "Me".(note; be careful about each vowel sounds in Japanese pronunciation; "a" in "aha", "i" is "e" in "we", "u" is "oo" in "soon", "e" in "get", "o" in "old")
Step 2. Do the same thing; shout out loud in the order of "To-ho" "Ka-mi" "E-mi" "Ta-me".
Step 3. Do the same thing; shout out loud in the order of "To-ho-ka-mi" "E-mi-ta-me".
Then, back to step 1.
Repeat step 1 to 3 forever.
When you do it over and over again, you may start to feel faint or something; still, just keep doing it.
