Here comes Tanden!! Wow!!
Well, no need to make a fuss over it that much, but it is true that Tanden plays a super important role in the Ki energy world.
"Tanden" is called "Dantian" in Chinese.
The word "Tanden" (or "Dantian") consists of two Chinese characters - "Tan" and "Den".
As for "Tan", although there are various interpretation, I would like to pick up this interpretation - "the elixir of life". Well, there's no such thing as an eternal life, so here I would like to interpret it as something like "the origin of energy". As for "Den", it means a paddy field. So "Tanden" means a field where you can raise energy as much as you want.
Then, where on earth is Tanden? Sorry to keep you waiting. Here comes the answer:
Tanden is whole your body.
...Get it? What an answer?
Yes, the whole body is Tanden. That's it. But you might not get it, so I would like to explain it in terms of Kiko (Tai Chi / Qigong / Chi Kung) method.
According to some experts, there exist three Tandens: Upper Tanden, Middle Tanden, and Lower Tanden. Some Kiko(Tai Chi / Qigong / Chi Kung) manias enjoy making up even more Tanden words such as: Front Tanden, Back Tanden and so on.
Tanden is everywhere.
Here I pick up one of them - Lower Tanden.
The lower Tanden is located approximately two to three inches below the navel. It is also called Seika Tanden or Kikai Tanden. Kikai means ocean (kai) of energy (Ki). So Lower Tanden is an ocean of energy as well as a field of energy where you can raise energy as much as you want.
And where it is exactly? Well, it is approximately two to three inches below the navel. The word "approximately" is important here because Sumo wrestler's one differs with new born baby's one. It depends on the size of the body. So just consider that it is located AROUND that part of your body.

Turn your attention to the spot about two to three inches below your navel. What do you have over there?

The small intestine is also known as the small bowel. It is where the majority of digestion and absorption take places.
